Finding Joy at the Senior Centre

Mr Tan is a retiree who recently experienced the loss of his wife to a terminal illness. This left him feeling isolated in his new home in Bukit Gombak. Scarred by past negative interactions, Mr Tan found it challenging to trust and connect with others. However, his life took a positive turn when the Health Management Team from REACH Senior Service introduced him to REACH Senior Centre @ Bukit Gombak Vista through their outreach efforts.

Since then, Mr Tan has enthusiastically embraced the senior centre community, actively participating in a wide array of programmes including Chinese and English classes, calligraphy sessions, Community Cafe gatherings, outings, and the Men’s Club. Engaging in these activities has not only provided him with opportunities to acquire new skills, but has also fostered meaningful connections with fellow seniors.

Reflecting on his journey, Mr Tan acknowledges the transformative impact the centre has had on his life. He expresses gratitude for the introduction to the centre, admitting he was unaware of its existence until the outreach team reached out to him. Through his involvement, Mr Tan has found a renewed sense of happiness, confidence, and belonging within the community.
